About the Senior Childcare Lawyer Role:

We are looking for a Senior Childcare Lawyer to join the social services legal team at Luton Borough Council to provide advice and representation to the Council in all areas of childcare law.

Luton Borough Council has a wealth of experience gained through many years of advising their clients in local government, the public sector, charities, and schools. The team provides a wide range of legal services, delivered by specialist lawyers who understand the local government context and priorities. Key Responsibilities of the Senior Childcare Lawyer role:

The role will involve delivering comprehensive professional legal advice to Children's Services. You will manage a portfolio of your own cases which will consist of, but not limited to:

  • s31 Care Proceedings
  • Emergency Protection Orders
  • Advising in relation to PLO proceedings, adoption, leaving care and age assessments
  • You will be required to undertake advocacy in Luton, and you will need to be comfortable negotiating with clients and other professionals to secure agreed objectives
  • You will be responsible for providing support and guidance to the wider team and helping them to develop their skills

Ideal requirements for the Senior Childcare Lawyer position will include:

We are looking for candidates with previous advocacy experience and exceptional relationship building, networking, and influencing skills. In addition to this, you will ideally have experience of managing and mentoring team members.

You will need to be a qualified Solicitor, barrister or FCILEx with 6 years+ PQE to apply but we are open minded to speaking with candidates of all child protection backgrounds.
